Spring 2024

Hello community! Hello gardeners!

Snow is falling this morning, but spring is inevitable. It is time to confirm your garden plots for 2024.

My name is Phil, and I’m jumping into the garden with a few hats this year. The recent leadership are transitioning away and we still have a garden to grow, so let’s go!

Returning gardeners, please confirm your plot by April 30th by emailing 3437garden@gmail.com or by texting me at 612.607.4091.

Plots remain $20 per season. This can be paid via Venmo at @Phil-Rooney-2 or by check/cash in person to me.

Prior to gardening, your plot must be paid for and signed 2024 garden contract submitted.

More information on community work days, garden map, and the garden contract will be forthcoming.

Thank you all!

Spring 2023-Thank you!

 Hello 3437 Community Gardeners,

Spring seems to be early this year but don't let mother nature fool you, do we still get snow in May?

I would like to thank everyone for the memories of 3437 Community Garden but with sadness I am sharing that I am stepping down from the garden for now and handing over my roles over. More information to come soon!

Also, a big thank you to Barb and Nate for all of their volunteer time and commitment to the garden and community!

I will be supported the new volunteers so if questions come up, please, send me a text message at 612-554-6656 or email 3437garden@gmail.com.

More Spring 2023 garden information coming soon!

-Lynn

Garden contarct has an update

We updated the information in this part of the contract.

Individual Plot Assignment:  Once I have been assigned a plot, I will cultivate and plant in it within 4 weeks/one month. I agree that if I do not plant or cultivate my plot within four weeks/one month of May 10, 2023 I forfeit my plot for the season and my plot will be assigned to another gardener. My fee will not be reimbursed and used as a donation to the 3437 Garden. This means your plot must be cleaned out and attended to by June 10th, 2023. I will garden all season. My plot cannot be left fallow or unused for any period of two weeks or longer; this is weeds taking it over or unwatered plants. I understand that if I leave my plot unused for more than two weeks without making prior arrangements, I agree that other garden members may tend to and harvest my plot. We have this in the contract for the people on the waiting list who are eager to get a plot and start planting. Also, we are trying to keep the garden looking tidy to have a clean and safe environment. The more we care for the gardens the more the community respects it as well. If you are not able to get to your garden in 4 weeks of renting it we ask that you ask a friend or neighbor to help in your garden until you are able. We do not want to forfeit anyone from a community garden.

What does the garden do with the money?

The Powderhorn Park Association supports the garden through connections with the city. We pay the city $400.00 annually for the insurance on the land on which the garden is. Other ways the money is spent: tools, plants, seeds, compost, supplies for signs, polls, beds, and mulch.

We also pay an annual fee of $50.00 to be a member of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society. This is our third year. They offer many seeds and plants!    MN State Horticulture Society
