Want to be more involved with the garden?
I am looking for someone who would like to co-manage it with me for 2020 summer! Entitles renting out all plots, gather donated plants, money....., supporting weekly garden work night, spring and fall clean-up, ordering compost, involving our neighborhood neighbors in the garden and arranging community garden gatherings/ potlucks.
We are open to new ideas!

Snow Flakes
Hello 3437 Community Gardeners,
I hope everyone found some beauty in Sunday's snowflakes falling! It feels great to post on here for it's been awhile, does anyone know where the time has gone? The garden still looks gorgeous as the snow rests on the remaining stems and dried up flowers. Thank you to everyone for joining the 3437 Community Garden for the 2019 summer! Wish everyone a warm and safe winter!

Community Night
Our Community night will be Monday's 5 to 6 pm starting tonight! There may be days that I don't get there right at 4 because work has be held up but I am on my way!
Part of a community garden is to take part in the garden as a whole community. If anyone has an idea of how we can get more 3437 community gardeners to join us at our community nights please come to one and lets build a working community garden community!
What do we do on a community night? weed, share a joke or two, pick up trash, chat about gardening and life, pick berries and eat them, laugh with each other, water, fill up rain barrels, plant or transplant perennials, fix the rope fencing, clean up the shed....... high five and hug each other for all our hard work we did as a community!
Hope everyone has been enjoying this summer! Does anyone else miss the 100 degree heat already?! The garden plots look great! Urban farming delicious food!

Community garden work night
Hello 3437 gardeners!
What a warm June we are having, hope everyone is enjoying it! The garden plots are looking great! We have been working on the perennials beds in the front but more in the back as of now. A lot of the native plants have returned this year! We have began extending the care for the boulevard on 15th avenue to end of the apartment building for free water.
If you know of anyone who is thinning out shady or sunny perennials we would love to diversity the plants in our perennial beds. MN Native perennial plants would be grrrreat!
Community garden work night will begin June 24th 5-7 pm! We will see how many folk show up and see if this will work or what could be done to become more of a community based "community garden". Please, share ideas!
If you are an early bird come join me at 6 am in the garden! Text me at 612.5545.6656 with a heads up the night before. Mayday coffee on me at 7 am!
To keep the garden low on weeds and trash please pick a couple weeds (grab grass) and pieces of trash when you in checking on your plot. THANK YOU! A little help goes a long way.
Notes:
Refill rain barrels with the hose water if they are low when you use them.
Keep weeds down in your plot. Do not put in compost if they have seeds.Place them on the walk way path for human foot traffic to break them.

Compost plans fell through. Sorry we will not be getting compost till next spring. If you would like some reach out and we will pick some up for plot.

Mulch pile
Last years mulch pile has got to go! It's in the back by the strawberries.
If you are in the garden please take one wheelbarrow and dump it in the sunny perennial beds up front, south west side of garden. Spread it around about 3" thick. This will help as a weed barrier and mulch for keeping moister in on these upcoming hot summer days! Thursday we got up to 80 degrees! Last September was the last time it was that warm!

The garden is looking for perennials that like the shade!
We would like to doctor up the back to a beautiful self sustaining garden with no buck-thorn or thistles. Last year we were donated, hostas, lily's, wandering jew, many more from MN Green. We purchased 30 native plants from Mother Earth Garden Center!
We are members of MN Green again this year so fingers crossed more plants come our way!
We would really like to add ferns!

rocks on rain barrels
Do not cover the rain barrels holes with the rocks! this then covers the holes which prevents rain water from going in. We place the rocks next to the holes which prevents strong winds from blowing off the tops. Someone may place a metal netting over the holes to prevent squirrels or what not falling in and drowning. I can help with this next week sometime for I think we have a form of metal netting that may work in the shed.
