September Work Days and Events

Hello gardeners!

We're winding down the season but there is still lots of produce coming up. We have work to do in the garden to clear dead plants and general cleanup of shared spaces. Please join us for the following work days in September:

Also, this Saturday, September 13 is Community Garden Day. Events are happening all around the Twin Cities to celebrate our great work! Find a garden to visit at www.gardeningmatters.org/community-garden-day. Participating gardens that are close to us are:

• Infinity Garden, 2820 S. 18th Ave.
• Minnehaha Avenue Community Garden, 3128 Minnehaha Ave.
• East Phillips Community 17th Avenue Garden, 2428 17th Ave. S.
• Mashkiikii Gitigan (Medicine Garden), 1316 E. 24th St.
• Minneapolis American Indian Center, 1530 E. Franklin Ave.

Hello gardeners! Our tomatoes, peppers and lettuce are growing every day. I'm proud of all our gardens and their bountiful produce. Please come to one or more of the work days in August to help in the community areas and meet your neighbors.

July Work Days: Can you help July 1, 10 or 19?

We are officially in summer! The garden looks plentiful with the help of the constant rains and bursts of sunshine. Unfortunately, the weeds have also loved the water and sun.

We will be working on weeding the community plots, pathway, and the area nearest the street. See you there!

June Work Days: Help Needed this Wednesday

Our garden is looking amazing! I'm hungry just thinking about all the lettuce, beans and radishes popping up. If you still need plants, you are welcome to take the plants from the back plots behind the shed. More seeds packets have been placed in the shoe box in the shed including beans and cucumbers. Help yourself!

We are not doing the normal 2nd Tuesday and Saturday work days in June. Instead we picked days that garden leads will definitely be available. Here are our scheduled days:

June 4 Work Day 
We need help building our new compost bin this Wednesday. All skills levels are welcome. We will
clean out the area needed and build a 3 bin system. Please come by to help. We need 6-10 gardeners.

Work to be done

• Clear the back plots near the alley of old growth; add new compost layer
• Make sure the path and in between plots have a layer of mulch
• Clear old growth under the trees next to the road
• Clear old growth from plots in front of apartment building
• Hang up new bulletin board 
• Organize shed (tool hooks, shelf)
• Stabilize shed (this will be a special work day)
• Make new compost bin (this will be a special upcoming work day)

Días Trabajoso del Jardín:

Trabajo que tenemos que hacer:

• Limpiar las parcelas atrás al lado del callejón; agregar abono vegetal 
• Agregar mantillo entre las parcelas  
• Limpiar plantas viejas debajo de los arboles al lado de la calle  
• Limpiar plantas viejas de las parcelas en frente del apartamento al norte del jardín    
• Colgar un tablón de anuncios nuevo      
• Organizar el cobertizo
•  Estabilizar el cobertizo (esto tiene que ser en un día especial)Construir un nuevo cubo para abono vegetal (esto tiene que ser en un día especial)

April 28th Welcome Meeting Recap #UPDATED SCHEDULE FOR MAY

Thanks to everyone for coming out and making the first meeting a great success!

We accomplished several things at the meeting--if you were unable to attend or want to learn more, post questions and comments here or feel free email garden contact!

• We learned some background on the garden, met our gardening community, and asssigned plots, and created a phone and email list. We won't flood your inbox with requests and reminders, so stay tuned here.
• Use this space to post comments, questions, resources, and photos.
• If it is more your style, check out the 3437 Garden Facebook page and use that space.

• We asked each member to show up for TWO work days each month for TWO hours each. These will be held every other Wednesday and Saturday. However, we have a lot of work to do in May, so folks will be there every Wednesday and Saturday until June.
• The Garden Work Day Schedule is as Follows: 
• Wednsdays from 4 pm to 8 pm
• Saturdays from 9 am to Noon
