3437 Garden Opening Day 2012!

The 3437 Garden will hold it's 2012 "opening gardening day" on Saturday, April 21, at noon.  Bring your garden tools and gear and join us as we break ground and bread to begin our third year as a growing and ever-evolving community garden.  Our individual plots for English speakers are now full, however we are still accepting Spanish-speaking members, and we are always open to more communal garden members.

We now have a garden board made up of both veteran and new garden members, who have been busy plotting out ambitious undertakings for both the garden and it's members: For our members, we plan on providing English and Spanish language classes, focused on "garden verbiage," necessary for the harmonious bilingual garden we hope to become.  For the garden, we plan on adding a few garden plots-along the boulevard and in the front of our annexed property, a garden shed, a new compost bin, an official garden symbol (the cabbage), and bilingual garden signs.

In the spirit of a true community garden, we ask that all our garden members join us at least twice a month, to first work on the communal space and then their individual plots.  This year our garden work days will be on Wednesdays, from 6-8 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9-11 a.m. We also have a season of wonderful garden parties ahead of us: Summer Solstice Celebration on Wednesday, June 8, at 6 p.m.; National Garden Night Out on Wednesday, August 15, at 6 p.m.; Harvest Celebration on Wednesday, October 10, at 6 p.m.; and a Garden Closing (TBD).

Finally, we are going to have an information table at the upcoming May Day Celebration, on Sunday, May 6, so please come and visit us there!
