Mulch pile

Last years mulch pile has got to go! It's in the back by the strawberries.

If you are in the garden please take one wheelbarrow and dump it in the sunny perennial beds up front, south west side of garden.  Spread it around about 3" thick. This will help as a weed barrier and mulch for keeping moister in on these upcoming hot summer days! Thursday we got up to 80 degrees! Last September was the last time it was that warm!

Thank you!

Love,
The Sunny Perennials

shady perennials

The garden is looking for perennials that like the shade!

We would like to doctor up the back to a beautiful self sustaining garden with no buck-thorn or thistles.  Last year we were donated, hostas, lily's, wandering jew, many more from MN Green. We purchased 30 native plants from Mother Earth Garden Center!

We are members of MN Green again this year so fingers crossed more plants come our way!

We would really like to add ferns!

rocks on rain barrels

Do not cover the rain barrels holes with the rocks! this then covers the holes which prevents rain water from going in. We place the rocks next to the holes which prevents strong winds from blowing off the tops.  Someone may place a metal netting over the holes to prevent squirrels or what not falling in and drowning. I can help with this next week sometime for I think we have a form of metal netting that may work in the shed.

watering cans

We got 2 more plastic watering cans with a gentle rain spout for a more gentle watering approach for seeds and seedlings.  They were placed in the rain barrel bins with the other 2 plastic watering cans. Please leave all four in the rain barrels, they are plastic so they will not rust. This makes it easier for one to water when there is no need to enter the shed.

Community work night?

Send me any email, post on this blog or text me (612.554.6656) by Sunday, May 26th of when you all would like our weekly community work night!

We usually meet one night a week starting around 5 pm for about an hour or so. In the past gardeners preferred not a Friday evening.

Free Compost in PH. Park

The Mulch Store, A specialized Environmental Technologies company (SET) took care of all the trash, compostable trash and recycling from May Day last year and this year!  They sold compost this Saturday at Powderhorn Park, near the dumpsters in the parking lot.  They have some left over and left it there for us to bring to the garden!! Please, bring the wheel barrow down their and fill it up for plot. If you want to bring up more for others in the community garden please do.

We are getting compost from SET https://www.mulchstoremn.com/ soon!  I will be putting an order in tomorrow, Monday May 13th!  Stay tuned for when it will be delivered. We will need your help bringing it into the garden form the street or alley roads.
