Mulch?

We are still waiting for the delivery of the mulch!   I will be touching base with them soon if the arrival doesn't happen by Friday, June 23rd.

Rainy Thursday, June 22nd

Hello 3437 Community Gardeners!

If the rain hangs on we will not be able to have our community gardening this Thursday evening.

If it slows down I will step out their for a while.

The Mulch!

                                      '

The Mulch is being donated to use from BRATT Trees Service!

Thanks to Corrine, who manages the CSA farm that I volunteer at (Jack Dog Farms, Urban CSA farm at 2213 East 38th street Mpls. for offering this connection to the 3437 Community Garden! Soon on Tuesday evenings 3 pm to 7 pm there will be a produce/flower stand up, STOP BY for some local f(g)oodness!

We ask that you please, place mulch in between your beds, on the path walk way and in the perennial/herbal gardens! If the straw is used up or you prefer to use mulch for your garden plot it's all for the community.

It will be about 6 yards so we will need everyone from the garden community to help get the pile spread. If we need more than are more than happy to offer more! No need to go to the gym this week just come to the garden!

Straw and Mulch coming soon!

I will be picking 2 bails of straw up today! It's great for using as mulch in your garden plot. Helps keep the weeds down and the soil moist. A thin layer usually does a great job with this.  If placed too thick you could have issues with too much moister causing slugs to move in and mold to grow.

I'll place it by the shed and cover it with a tarp. Help yourself but please try too keep it covered. It's hard to work with wet straw.

If you have any questions we can chat on Thursday evening, Community Garden Evening 6 pm to 8 pm!

Rain!

The garden looks amazing after this rain fall we just had!  We got 8/10 of an inch of rain! Happy plants!

Fun little info.:
At 32 degrees Fahrenheit the water to snow ratio is equivalent is roughly 1" of rain to 10" of snow.
However, the colder the air, the higher the ratio.
Therefore, at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, 1" of rain can produce as much as 40" of snow!!!!
So we would have a 8" of snow if it were winter!

Community Plot!

Our community plot is number 4!  Any gathered produce goes to Empty Bowls which is hosted in the fall!

Feel free to plant any seedlings of produce or flower extras you may have in plot 4, with allowing space and air for the plants in there already.
