Community Garden

Good evening everyone,

I wanted to thank everyone for helping out! I am really feeling a community being built!

The garden is becoming more and more beautiful as everyone gets into their plots.  Tomorrow we will be welcoming in new gardeners to the plots that have not been worked in!

I am looking forward to seeing more of you on Thursdays which is our community gardening day!  A day that we get together, chat, smile, work in our living community garden and enjoy this amazing MN summer weather!

See you all on Thursday!

Weeds

When picking weeds please, please do not put them in the compost! Please, put them in the white compost bags that are biodegradable and leave the bag next to the shed.  The weeds will never come to an end if we keep feeding our garden weeds through the compost :)  Thank you!    Lets leave the volunteer milkweed, butterflies and bees love it :)

Little Projects

What a beautiful Sunday we had today! Sunny and a lot warmer than we have been having these last couple days.  Thank you to everyone who is helping out, the garden is looking better and better!  I like the herbs up front :)   The back I got to working on this evening and it looks better already.  I plan on spreading out the large compost pile on top of the straw that is spread-ed out and then applying the mulch on top of that. I thought the soul would enjoy this organic matter so we can do some perennial planting in the back to make it cozy and more welcoming!  We also spoke about planting some dwarf trees in the back to help block the garbage pile along with some spring dwarf blooming trees.  Lets keep spreading the mulch, the pile is becoming smaller and smaller!  We can pick the weeds in between the beads and spread it there, in the center on the path, in the back over the spread-ed organic matter and that should do it.  I want to hang up the tools in the shed, there are nails in the white plastic jar and ribbon next to that.  And the compost always needs a turning :)

Compost

As we know the compost will be coming tomorrow between 6 and 6:30 pm.  If this doesn't happen I will post on the blog asap!  I apologize for this confusion the city is very busy and can not give a 100% with a date. I will stay in touch about this as soon as possible with as much detail as possible.  Thank you all for being flexible and understanding .

Compost

As of now (the city is busy with making deliveries) our compost will be delivery Monday, May 16th between 6 and 6:30 pm.

Let's move this compost as a community and  hail it in each plot and the extra for the berries and perennial plants!

Please, let me know if you don not want  compost in your pot.  If your plot is full of weeds we will not be putting compost in it unless you contact me for you are not able to make to your plot before Monday evening.

Seedlings

Later today there will be more seedlings in the shed (till it warms up) for the planting, they are free from Gardening Matters!

Community

What a nice rain we had this afternoon! I plan on going to the garden this evening to plant a couple perennials that are donated to the garden and work on spreading mulch.

We really need to work as a community to get the mulch pile spread by next Monday the 16th for that is when our compost is arriving. I'll be in the garden everyday this week working on thinning the pile out.
15, 20, 30 minuets it all will be a great help, ever little bit helps out :)

Thank you to all who have been helping out, the garden is looking better and better!

Reminder to water from the barrels by hand, keep the lids on and refill them when they are below 1/3 full.

Reminder when you are planting, keep you plants contained in your plot.

The suns heat!

Good evening Gardeners,

What beautiful weather is here!  With this heat I'd like to say the water is on. The landlord asked if we keep the front year of his building looking nice for free water. I filled up the blue barrels, please use that water first and refill them when you are done.  Lets work together as a community with doing this.  If any ones has perennials that need a home, they may get cozy there.

It's best to water in early am or the evening when the sun is not as intense. Please, no over head watering.

We were gifted strawberries, planted in the garden beds to the east of the shed.  Also seedlings of Amish Tomato and Kale.  :) The seedlings are cozy to the right of the shed.

The compost is coming May 16th!

Just a reminder to please keep all your plants contained in your plot, the garden becomes cozy at times.

Compost: nothing larger than 4" in the compost, no weeds with seeds, no diseased plants, no tomatoes or vine crops.  We have a couple pruners in the shed for cutting compost to 4".

The shed key is placed behind the big white stone to your right if your facing the shed. It's covered with much and I placed a rock with a heart over the key container.

Thank you for everyone's support and help! We are a community working together to keep this garden happy!

Mulch!

The mulch is coming tomorrow!  We are getting 15 yards, a nice amount to do a good mulching! Lets pull out all the grass from under the fruit trees, add compost (it'll be here soon) then apply mulch.
Please, pick the weeds before we lye mulch down in between the garden beads and the walk way. Also, lets mulch around the perennials after we pick out the weeds and grass.  Any extra mulch will be put in the back to help keep the weeds down.

Tomorrow I work till 7 pm I will not be able to help with the mulch but everyday this week around 5:30/6 pm I will be in the garden! It will be wonderful to see you there if you can make it.  I have been slowly picking at the compost pile as well.

Please, don't put anything larger than 4" into the compost. There are pruners to cut material into 4" size. If it can't be cut then please throw it in the trash, thank you!

I'm super excited as the garden is progressing, thanks to everyone!

Beautiful MayDay

Hello 3437 Gardeners,

What a beautiful day we had for MayDay celebration!  I think we are going to have some nice weather this week, since the last two days we were going to meet in the garden it rained.

I am still waiting to hear back from the city with our compost. I'll keep you posted asap!  The Tree Company that brought our mulch the last couple years is no longer able to help us out. I have contacted other Tree Services and will let you know asap on delivery dates.

I am going to go to the garden tonight and pick a couple dandelions and bag up more of the large compost to clean up that area. Do you have plans? Come pick yourself a boutique of flowers :)

I will offer an up to date plot rental map next Monday, then if there are more available, feel free to rent a second one!

The raspberries have started to spread!
