Gardening classes put on by Tiny Diner

Hello community gardeners! 

We have a bunch of great classes coming up at Tiny Diner that are free/low cost and open to the community! Please share with your gardeners! 
Topics include landscaping for biodiversity, carbon capture, soil health as a tool to combat weeds, cover cropping in urban spaces, and straw bale gardening! Please send questions or RSVPs to andrea.e@tinydiner.com.


Transform Your Yard: Sink Carbon in the Soil!

Did you know that your lawn might be a key to removing excess carbon in the atmosphere? Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today who’s cause is an excess of carbon in the atmosphere. So let's put that carbon back where it came from-in the soil! This class will talk through the nuts and bolts of soil carbon sequestration and teach anyone how to restore soil and fight climate change by sinking carbon! 

Instructor Information: Kassie Brown is the lead educator at Renaissance Soil, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming dirt back into living soil by teaching humans how to partner with the ancient systems that grow resilient plants, hold water, clean up pollution, and store carbon.


Weeds and Soil Health: A Holistic Solution

Does creeping charlie got you down? Are dandelions your nemesis? In this class Bob of Organic Bob we will take a look at weeds’ role in soil health and talk about how focusing on building healthy soil can help control weed problems. If you want an organic solution to your weed problem, this is the class for you!

Instructor Information: Bob Dahm (aka Organic Bob) has been providing alternatives to chemical lawn care for 17 years. Soil health is at the forefront of Bob’s work. 


Building Long Term Soil Health with Cover Crops

Interested in building healthy soil in order to grow better fruits and vegetables? Cover cropping is a regenerative farming technique that is a powerful tool towards achieving vibrant soil health and many other ecosystem benefits in your garden. In this class we’ll show how these regenerative farming techniques are adapted for urban gardens. Each student will go home free sample seeds to try on their own garden.

Instructor Information: Nick Schneider owns Thrive Chef Works LLC, a personal chef and catering company. Next to cooking good food, growing good food is Nick's equally vital passion.


Straw Bale Gardening Basics 
Saturday May 25th

In this class we will cover all the basics of what you need to know about how to grow flowers, herbs and vegetables in straw bales! Straw bales are an easy way to expand your garden space, require very minimal weeding and are 100% compostable! In this introductory class you’ll learn how to prepare your bales for planting, fertilize, plant and much more! 

Instructor Information: Trianna Houser has always enjoyed experimenting with different urban farming techniques and has been growing in straw bales for the last 3 years in the yard of her Powderhorn home.
